At St Mary's, inclusion means that every child feels valued, supported, and able to thrive. We work hard to make sure all pupils—whatever their starting points, needs, or circumstances—receive the right support at the right time.
How We Ensure Strong, Effective Inclusion
• We identify needs early and accurately
Our staff look carefully at each child’s learning and well-being so we can spot any emerging or changing needs quickly. This includes the needs of pupils with SEND, disadvantaged pupils, children known to social care, and any child who may face barriers to learning.
• We set high expectations for every pupil
We believe all children can succeed. When a pupil needs extra help, we put support in place—drawing on specialist advice where needed—to reduce barriers and help them make good progress.
• We follow a clear, graduated approach
Our support is tailored and flexible. We review what is working, adjust where necessary, and make sure resources match each child’s needs. Staff are well trained and supported to deliver this approach effectively.
• We use evidence to guide our decisions
Leaders have a strong understanding of pupils’ needs and progress. We use reliable evidence to shape our pupil premium strategy and the approaches we choose. All staff understand these strategies and apply them consistently.
Pastoral Care and Support for Children and Families
We are deeply committed to supporting not only our pupils, but also their families. Our pastoral team works closely with parents and carers on a wide range of issues, including behaviour, sleep, health and general well-being. We collaborate with a variety of external agencies—such as social care, health services, play therapists, speech and language therapists, and music therapists—to ensure that every child receives the specialist help they may need. Alongside this, our highly qualified staff are on hand to support children every minute of every school day. There is very little we haven’t navigated before, and we are always here to listen, guide and help. If you ever feel you would benefit from support or advice, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
