Pupil Leadership at St Mary's
Pupil leadership is a key part of bringing our school vision — Rise Up, Take Courage and Do It — to life. Through leadership roles, children are encouraged to step forward, believe in themselves, and take responsibility for making a positive difference. Each September, children are invited to apply for the roles they are interested in, giving them valuable early experience of job‑seeking skills such as writing an application, explaining their strengths, and reflecting on how they can contribute. This process builds confidence, resilience, and aspiration. For the individual child, pupil leadership develops independence, communication, and a strong sense of purpose. For the school, it creates a positive culture where children’s voices are valued, leadership is shared, and pupils actively contribute to school improvement and community life.
Pupil Leaders
Pupil Leaders help to support school improvement. We work with staff to share ideas about what is working well and what could be even better. We try to be positive role models and help make our school the best it can be.
Eco Council
The Eco Council helps to look after our environment. We encourage everyone in school to recycle, save energy, and care for nature. We lead projects that help our school become more eco‑friendly and learn how small actions can make a big difference.
Team Captains
Team Captains help to lead and motivate their teams during sports and events. We encourage fair play, teamwork, and positive attitudes. We try to lead by example and support everyone to do their best.
Lunchtime Monitors
Lunchtime Monitors help keep lunchtimes calm, safe, and friendly. We help younger children, encourage good manners, and support everyone to enjoy their break. We take responsibility seriously and help look after our school community.
Worship Leaders
Worship Leaders help to support collective worship. We help lead reflections, readings, and prayers, and encourage others to take part thoughtfully. Our role is to help create a calm and respectful atmosphere where everyone feels included.
School Council
The School Council is made up of children who are elected by their classmates. We listen to ideas and opinions from others and help make positive changes in our school and local community. We work on projects that have a real impact and help everyone feel listened to.
Play Leaders
Play Leaders help make playtimes fun and inclusive. We organise games, support children who are finding someone to play with, and help resolve small disagreements. Our aim is to make sure everyone feels happy and involved.
Librarians
School Librarians help to keep the library organised, welcoming, and tidy. We encourage others to enjoy reading and help children find books they might like. We take pride in looking after books so everyone can enjoy them.
