Music

At St Mary’s C of E Primary School, we believe every child should be happy and enthusiastic learners of Music and be eager to achieve their very best in order to fulfil their talents. We firmly believe that the recipe for success is high quality teaching in Music, which is central to the life of our happy, caring school.

Music plays a large part in the life of our school and children participate in a variety of musical activities as part of the curriculum, including singing, bands and recorder playing. The music curriculum gives children opportunities to listen to music, appraise, improvise, compose and perform. During their time at St. Marys, all children are given the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument. Through their participation in assemblies, concerts etc. children can demonstrate their skills to live audiences with growing confidence.  This year, we are using the scheme Sparkyard to support our music lessons.

As part of our cultural capital, children will learn about key figures from Music history such as Bach, Mozart, Miles Davis, Elgar, Bernstein, Bates and many more.
