At St. Mary's we deliver English through a 'Talk for Writing' curriculum. Our curriculum has been designed so that it builds on the foundations of phonics and extends children to unpicking and creating their own texts at the end of Key Stage 2. Through our curriculum pupils have the chance to explore their learning in many different ways such as: drama, role play, debates, paired talk, response to personal experiences, editing their work and sharing their ideas with other authors.
In addition to our work in English lessons, children are afforded opportunities to apply their skills in different subject areas. These cross-curricular opportunities are planned in response to high quality experiences, examples of these include: children taking part in Roman battle formations; visits to local areas of interests; and handling different animals to explore their features.
Our curriculum ensures that children become confident and competent users of both spoken and written language.  We have taken part in the Kernow Speaks Oracy Project; taking some of the principles that fit well into our curriculum.
